Institute Profile

The English Language Institute formerly known as the Lado English Language Institute is a language school where students from all over the world come to learn English.

It is centrally located at Wheeling Jesuit University, Wheeling, West Virginia, the youngest of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States. The Institute is one of many programs at the comprehensive, liberal arts college.

The Institute was founded by Robert Lado, professor of linguistics at fellow Jesuit school, Georgetown University. Dr. Lado was recognized as an authority on English language teaching and has written numerous textbooks currently being used in over fifty countries. His effective techniques are applied at the Institute by English speaking teachers who are professionally qualified to teach English as a foreign language.

Through intensive courses students acquire the knowledge of English necessary for travel, professional or occupational communication, or admission to a university or technical school. In order to offer every student ample time to speak in class and to receive individual attention, class size is limited to 12 students.

Students attend five hours of classes every day, Monday through Friday. Additionally, they are expected to practice English outside the classroom with the many resources available to them. Students have the option of residing in residence halls at the University or with
American families in the community.
