Wheeling Jesuit’s Jones Named WVIAC Soccer Player of the Year



(PRINCETON, W.VA)--- West Virginia Conference men's soccer coaches have selected Wheeling Jesuit’s Jade Jones as the WVIAC Player of the Year.

The junior defender was the leader for the Cardinals’ defense. A native of Erin, Trinidad, and team captain, Jones earns his second straight All-WVIAC First Team honor.

Goalkeeper Chris Regan, a senior from Pittsburgh, defender Gaston Orique, a junior from Toronto, Canada, midfielder Scott Sinick, a freshman from Brimfield, Ohio, and forward Ryan Ferns, a senior from Wheeling, W.Va., were selected to the All-WVIAC honorable mention squad.

Regan started 10 games in goal for the Cards, allowing 15 goals, while saving 30 shots. Orique had one goal and three assists in 14 games this season. Sinick played 14 games for the Cards in playmaker role in the midfield. Ferns, the Cards’ second leading scorer, had six goals and two assists in 14 games.

Coach Jim Regan’s squad finished the 2004 season 6-6-3 overall and 2-2-3 in the conference.
