WHEELING, WV, July 13, 2009 — The Wheeling Jesuit University Publication Board recently announced the appointment of junior Christopher Rouhier, a history and political science major, as editor of the student newspaper, the Cardinal Connection. Rouhier has been a writer for the Cardinal Connection for two years and served as assistant editor during the 2008-2009 academic year.
“Chris will make an excellent editor for the Cardinal Connection,” said administrator Becky Forney, moderator for the newspaper. “His writing and editing skills are superior and he has an excellent rapport with students and faculty.”
The Cardinal Connection is a student run publication that strives to provide a forum for the expression of viewpoints on issues facing the community so the university community may develop a mature public opinion. Published twice monthly, it serves the student body, faculty and staff of the university. The Cardinal Connection also serves as vehicle for educating students in professional journalistic skills.
"I have always been interested in the power of newspapers in both informing the public and stimulating discussion. Writing for the school newspaper was an opportunity I did not take up in high school, and I've always regretted that, so naturally, writing in college was an easy decision. I look forward to building on the rich history of student publications at WJU and ushering in an era of unparalleled quality of reporting,” said Rouhier.
A native of Wooster, Ohio, Rouhier maintains a 3.87 grade point average and is active in the History Club, Phi Alpha Theta, Political Science Club, Student Leaders Across Campus and is a history tutor in the Wheeling Jesuit Academic Resource Center. Rouhier is the son of Lawrence and Teresa Rouhier.
