WHEELING, WV, Aug. 19, 2009 — West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin will make a stop at Wheeling Jesuit University to observe a special Program Showcase at the university as the campus prepares for the arrival of its students. The display will be set up from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26 at the Alma Grace McDonough Center.

“We planned this display as a celebration of our efforts to our internal and external community. At the beginning of this new year we want to make sure everyone is aware of the many programs and activities available right here on campus,” said Academic Vice President Letha Zook. “It’s a great way for our employees to prepare for another successful year of Jesuit education.”

The theme for the year is The Common Good in Community: Wheeling Jesuit and Beyond.

“This is the first event to celebrate the building of community on and around the campus. We are delighted to include the Governor in our celebration,” Zook said.

New students arrive on campus Thursday, Aug. 27 and returning students move in a few days later to prepare for the official start of class on Aug. 31.

Both sponsored programs and university programs are participating in the showcase that will be set up around the indoor track in the main performance gym. Academics, athletics, research activities, service work and sponsored programs will display their information and answer questions to those who visit their booths.
