Appalachian Film Festival at University



WHEELING, WV, Sept. 21, 2009 — Wheeling Jesuit University’s Appalachian Institute invites the public to a film festival takes place nightly at 9 p.m., Monday – Friday, Sept. 21 – 25. The films will be shown in Donahue Hall, room 129.

Admission is free and refreshments will be served and are courtesy of various local restaurants including the Alpha, Deano's, Greco's, Salsa Cafe and Wheeling Coffee Shop.

The purpose of the film festival is to address issues specific to Appalachia such as environmental degradation, health care concerns, and social stereotypes.

Titles include:

Monday, Sept. 21 – “30 Days: Working as a Coal Miner,” by Morgan Spurlock, director of “Supersize Me.”

Tuesday, Sept. 22 – “Dancing Outlaw,” by Jacob Young.

Wednesday, Sept. 23 – “Buffalo Creek: An Act of Man,” by Mimi Pickering.

Thursday, Sept. 24 – "Burning the Future: Coal in America by David Novack," featuring Wheeling Jesuit biology professor Ben Stout.

Friday, Sept. 25 - “Harlan County, USA,” by Barbara Kopple.
