Dr. John Maris ’83 has received recognition from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pa. Maris earned his undergraduate degree in biology at Wheeling Jesuit in 1983.

This year’s Leonard Berwick Memorial Teaching Award was given to Maris for his work in the department of pediatrics.

He is one of several faculty members who have demonstrated excellence through their highly significant contributions to biomedical research, mentoring, and their dedication to improving the quality of patient care.

The awardees range from those at the beginning of highly promising careers to those whose distinguished work has spanned decades. A committee of senior faculty from the school of medicine chose Maris.
