DoBin Choi Named Valedictorian for the Class of 2010

“DoBin's presence in the WJU community has been a remarkable one. It's amazing how one so intellectually bright and talented could also be so pleasantly and capably available in so many other ways,” said the Rev. Jim O’Brien, S.J. a longtime professor at Wheeling Jesuit and advisor to Choi. “Thank you, DoBin for ‘letting your light shine!’ It's heartening to behold ‘a person for others’ happen in such a beckoning and refreshing way.”

WHEELING, WV, May 12, 2010 — DoBin Choi, of Bucheon, Korea, has been named Wheeling Jesuit University's valedictorian for the class of 2010 and will address her classmates, their families and honored guests at the 10:30 a.m. commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 15, held in the Alma Grace McDonough Center.

The daughter of Seungyul Choi and Gapchul Kim, also of Korea, Choi is a biology and mathematics major and has been accepted into the West Virginia University School of Dentistry.

Choi is also the outgoing president of the WJU Appalachian Experience Club, a WJU small prayer group leader, former president of Students Promoting Aids Awareness. She is a member of several honor societies, including the Alpha Epsilon Delta (prehealth), TriBeta (biology), Kappa Mu Epsilon (math) and Alpha Sigma Nu, (Jesuit). Additionally, Choi lived at the Mother Jones House, an intentional Christian service community located in East Wheeling for her junior year.

Her speech Saturday will focus on the appropriate theme of “beginning a new chapter of life.”
