Jesuit Idol Takes the Troy Theater Stage

WHEELING, WV, Feb. 24, 2011 — Wheeling Jesuit University’s annual production of Jesuit Idol, begins today at 9:15 p.m. (Feb. 24) in Troy Theater.

Like American Idol, the Wheeling Jesuit competition offers amateur singers a chance to
perform in front of a live audience and judges. Eliminating rounds take place until a final
winner is declared and receives an $800 prize.

Preliminary auditions were held three weeks ago and the 2011 contestants are: seniors Laura Hydeman, Mike Nestasie and Christopher Rouhier; junior Nicholas "Garbage" Garbark; sophomores Nick Bonaventure, Russell Mulley, Christopher Bohinski and Chanel Richardson; International Student Dang Dinh, and freshmen Kendal Witham,
Andrea Long and Loic Noubossie.

Jesuit Idol has been around for six years now and remains a big attraction to students and fans, both in the theater and on the web. In collaboration with the University’s Information Technology Services, Jesuit Idol will be broadcast live over the Internet. By going to cardinal.wju.edu, viewers can take part in the 2011 competition. Just send comments via text messaging to the production staff.

“With the ability to interact and watch the web cast, everyone watching the show on the can vote for their favorite competitor,” said Robert Kulpa, director of Student Life. Kulpa has been involved in the annual production since it began.

Three talent judges score the contestants and offer comments about each student's performance. The 2011 judges are the Rev. Don Serva S.J., professor of biology, Rick West, WJU registrar and Adrienne Greene, coordinator for the Service for Social Action Center.

Jesuit Idol is coordinated by the Campus Activities Board, a student-run organization that provides entertainment and activities on campus that operates out of the office of Student
