Member of the Inaugural Graduating Class to Receive Awards
WHEELING, WV, Feb. 15, 2012 -- A member of Wheeling Jesuit University's class of 1959 will receive two honors at the upcoming IPC Apex Expo.
Bill Coleman '59, who has, for nearly 30 years, been providing experience and knowledge to the electronic interconnect industry and lending expertise to the IPC, will be recognized Feb. 24 by the organization. He will receive the President's Award and the Distinguished Committee Service (DSC) Award.
The President's Award is given to the IPC volunteer who has exhibited ongoing leadership in IPC and has made significant contributions of their time and talent to the association and the electronic interconnect industry. The DSC award is presented to IPC members who have made an exceptional contribution to specific standard or other IPC program.
"Working with the task group allows me to help find solutions for the problems our customers face every day at Photo Stencil and throughout the industry," Coleman said.
Coleman began his career with National Cash Register in 1964. There, he authored many patents relating to flat panel displays. He was honored in 1977 by NCR for one of the company's top 10 patents of the 1960-decade. Considered an expert in his field, he authored many papers and held workshops on stencil technology all over the world.
As a member of the IPC, Coleman was instrumental in beginning the standard IPC-7525 in 1999. He has co-chaired 5-21e Solder Stencil Task Group Committee, presented more than a dozen papers and had numerous articles published in industry publications.
The IPC Expo is the largest and most prestigious exhibition and educational event in North America for printed boards and electronics manufacturing that attracts more than 7,000 colleagues from more than 50 countries. It features advanced and emerging technologies in printed electronics, electronics assembly and test/inspection. In addition, the expo provides exhibitions and educational classes.
In his current role with Photo Stencil LLC in Colorado Springs, Colo., Coleman serves as a stencil-matter expert in research and production operations. He is a member of the first graduating class at Wheeling Jesuit and the University’s first alumni to earn a doctorate degree.
