WHEELING, W.Va. – Over 100 International students at Wheeling Jesuit University will gather to share the customs and traditions of their home country during Culture Fest on Saturday, April 6th at 11:00 AM. This annual festival held in the Alma Grace McDonough Center gives the Wheeling Community the opportunity to experience cultures from all around the world, right here in the Ohio Valley.

These students have spent all year experiencing the Ohio Valley culture through activities such as shopping, watching movies, going out to eat, and spending time with classmates. Now is their chance to share a part of their home with the local community.
Countries that will be represented this year are Saudi Arabia, Nicaragua, Democratic Republic of Congo, China, Venezuela, South Korea, Columbia, Spain, Cameroon, Canada, Liberia, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Rwanda, Germany, Taiwan, Kenya, Nigeria, Belgium, Norway, Poland, Philippines, Trinidad, Russia, Ukraine, Greece, and Italy. All of these cultures will be represented in their own unique way, either by wearing traditional clothing, showcasing their country’s cuisine, singing, or dancing. The McDonough center will be brightly decorated with flags from all over the world and tables filled with food and mementoes from the students’ homes.
One international student, Mariah Glukhova, stated “I am very excited to be able to share my culture with the people of Wheeling, especially my home-made Russian food!”
Everyone from the Wheeling community is invited to attend this event. It is an excellent chance to learn, eat, and be entertained. This is a unique experience that only comes around once a year and attracts hundreds of area residents.
The event, planned by the English Language Institute (ELI) and the International Students Office, is an exciting time every year for our students and the community. Wheeling Jesuit faculty, Student Government, and French and Spanish Clubs will also have tables set up in the McDonough Center to showcase more of what Jesuit has to offer.
