Wheeling Jesuit to Host Last Blast Activities



Wheeling Jesuit University is hosting a number of events to mark Last Blast and the end of the academic year.

Sponsored by the Campus Activity Board (CAB) and Student Government Association (SGA), Last Blast is a week of student activities to engage WJU students in fun to close out the semester. There will be week long Twitter Contests. Retweet, photo scavenger hunt and trivia contests for great prizes like an iPad mini, beats by Dr. Dre headphones, and iPods will be awarded to the contest winners.

The fun kicks off at 9:30 a.m., Monday, April 22 with the final round of Jesuit Idol in Troy Theater. The final three contestants will compete for first and second place prizes totaling $800 and $200 respectively. Students have a say in who is chosen, by texting a vote for his or her favorite Idol contestant.

Local restaurants will compete for the honor of “Jesuit’s Favorite Wings” on Tuesday, April 23. Starting at 9 p.m., students can sample and vote for their favorite wings. The restaurants participating include: the 19th Hole, Ye Olde Alpha, Generations, Parkhurst, Dining, Quaker Steak and Lube, River City, Ruttenbuck's. Students can stop by the Benedum Room to taste test and vote and stop by the Ratt for karaoke. The winner will receive a certificate to hang in their restaurant.

CAB and ENACTUS will begin a new tradition, the crowning of Mr. WJU. Wednesday, April 24, male students can vie for this honor. The competition includes: talent, interview, formalwear and WJU Spirit-wear. The fun begins at 9 p.m. in Troy Theater.

Find out who will hold the top spot in this year’s Jesuit Idol competition during Thursday evening’s results show. The first and second place winners will be announced at 9:30 p.m. in Troy Theater and a post-show party will be held in the Ratt along with drink specials and a student band TBD.

KapSlap, a remix and mash up artist will transform Troy Theater into a dance club, complete with lasers, fog and special effects at 10 p.m., Friday, April 26.

The annual carnival will get under way at noon, Saturday, April 26 along Donahue lawn (rain site - Old Gym in McDonough Center). The afternoon will be filled with inflatables, contests, carnival food and live music from local band Stack of Monkeys. SGA will provide a dunk tank and for a fee, students can dump their favorite or least favorite professor. Proceed will go to a local charity.

The week wraps up on Saturday night with the Spring Formal to be held from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the Benedum Room.
