WHEELING, W.Va. - Wheeling Jesuit University copy-editing students have published a book, Post, Like, Retweet; The Truth About Social Media that sets out to bridge the gap between generations in their social media experiences. The book shows the benefits of social media, and provides warnings and advice that could have a great effect on readers.

“In this world of the ever-changing dissemination of information, what better way to know how to best communicate online than by asking Generation Y,” said Jim Forbes, former adjunct professor at Wheeling Jesuit University. “When I presented this rare opportunity for my students to write a book, based on their own experiences, they couldn’t wait. Now, everyone from the baby boomer generation down to those learning at a young age can learn some helpful tips and safety guidelines, gained from hands-on experience from these bright students. Read and enjoy,” he added.

First year MBA student Tyler Glover served as editor in chief, and Kara DeSantis ‘13 served as managing editor on the project. Glover and DeSantis led a team of 17 contributing authors who all prepared a chapter for the book.

Glover, along with the rest of the class saw a need for a publication of this type. “We felt like social media was an area that we were all very comfortable writing about, and we saw a need for this kind of book in our community.”

He continued, “We all have family members that are unsure of how to best use the technology that they have access to, and some that honestly, are afraid of it. We wanted to make social media more approachable to that type of person, while also providing some tips to safely communicate online.”

The ambitious project began in the spring of 2012, and all of the writing was completed by May of 2012.

DeSantis said, “It's not very often that students in college have the opportunity to write books, let alone get them published just one year later. I am happy to be a part of this class of incredible students who came together for the same cause. In just one semester we were able to compose a book that could help all generations learn about social media, something most people use, but may not fully understand. This was a learning experience, that given the chance and inspiration from a truly wonderful professor, we can accomplish great things.”

Post, Like, Retweet retails for $8 and is available for purchase online at CreateSpace.com and on Amazon.com.
