Wheeling Jesuit Philosophy to Induct Members, Host Speaker Friday

WHEELING, W.Va., April 4, 2017 -- Wheeling Jesuit University's philosophy club will hold its annual public lecture in conjunction with the Phi Sigma Tau Honor Society induction ceremony Friday.

Keynote speaker Keith Whitmoyer, Ph.D. will give a talk on the philosophy of the French phenomenologist Maurice Merleau-Ponty. The talk, “Merleau-Ponty and the Philosopher's Cruelty,” is drawn from his forthcoming book The Philosophy of Ontological Lateness: Merleau-Ponty and the Tasks of Thinking.

The presentation, sponsored by WJU's Philosophy Club, Sense and Nonsense, will take place at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 7 in the National Technology Transfer Center auditorium.

Whitmoyer is an adjunct assistant professor at Pace University in New York where he teaches a variety of philosophy courses. He received his doctorate and master's in philosophy from The New School of Social Research in New York City.

The talk and ceremony are open to the public.
