WHEELING, W.Va., April 27, 2017 -- Businesswoman and public relations expert Patty Briguglio, president of PFB Connect in Cary, North Carolina, will serve as Wheeling Jesuit University's (WJU) 2017 Commencement speaker.
WJU's 59th commencement ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 6 inside the Alma Grace McDonough Center, where 358 bachelors', masters' and doctoral degrees will be conferred.
“Patty is a well-known entrepreneur, whose work in the public relations profession and business world is highly respected. I know that she will offer the class of 2017 a meaningful message that will help them in their life's journey,” said Dr. Debra Townsley, president of Wheeling Jesuit.
Briguglio's firm works with companies in the areas of high level strategy, mergers and acquisitions, developing key connections and business development, as well as assisting privately held companies in planning.
Previously, Briguglio was CEO of MMI Public Relations, which she sold in 2012. As a recognized expert in the public relations industry, she is a sought-after media personality, speaker and business spokesperson. Among her many media appearances, addressing the topics of public relations, crisis management and economic development, are the front page of The New York Times (with President Barack Obama), CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX and FOX Business Network where she has been named to the Small Business All-Stars broadcast team.
Instrumental in founding and promoting organizations that benefit entrepreneurs, Ms. Briguglio's board affiliations have included the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce's board of directors, the Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women, and the Enterprising Women National Advisory Board. She has sat on numerous civic and charitable boards, including the Wake Ed Partnership, International Affairs Council, the Triangle Land Conservancy, and the North Carolina Symphony, serving on the Executive Committee. She currently chairs the Raleigh chapter and is the national Vice Chair of the American Friends of the Chateau de Compiegne.
Prior to moving to North Carolina to open MMI Public Relations, Briguglio was the owner of an award-winning public relations firm in Phoenix, Arizona, which she sold.
Briguglio will receive a Doctorate of Humane Letters honoris causa from the university.
Also receiving honorary degrees during Commencement are two Wheeling Jesuit graduates and former Board of Trustee members, William Bresnahan and Adam Monks.
Bresnahan and Monks, both residents of Pittsburgh and members of the class of 1964, served more than 10 years on Wheeling Jesuit's Board. Bresnahan is the managing partner of the Pittsburgh law firm, Bresnahan Nixon & Finnegan, P.C. and Monks is retired after spending 30 years as a partner at Ernst and Young L.L.P.
