Communications Officer

POSITION SUMMARY:  Supports strategic plans by actively contributing and subsequently creating materials that incorporate appropriate print and electronic media to meet communication/promotional goals. Creatively promotes the work of faculty, staff and students of the University through media outlets, social media, and digital media.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Journalism or Communications major preferred)
  • Minimum one (1) year experience required; three (3) years experience preferred
  • Demonstrated expert user knowledge of Adobe Design Software Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and accompanying hardware
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collects, proofs, and distributes news releases from internal sources that may interest potential donors, alumni and general public. 
  • Supports strategic communications plans by contributing creative ideas that incorporate appropriate print and electronic media promoting the mission of the University.
  • Maintains and develops the University’s social media platforms to meet objectives of the University.
  • Takes digital photos for use on the University’s website and uses media tools to enhance photographs. 
  • Manages content of, and oversees news websites. 
  • Prepares engaging print and electronic materials for all associated media communications.
  • Works closely with graphic designers, videographers, photographers, and web resources staff to integrate and graphics and video that enhance overall messaging of the University into various media.
