Community Relations Officer

POSITION OPENING: Community Relations Officer   DEPARTMENT:  Advancement

FLSA STATUS:  Exempt (Administrative)                  CLOSING DATE:   September 16, 2013

POSITION SUMMARY:  This position reports directly to the VP of Advancement and has responsibility for the following three (3) objectives: first, develop strong community relations; second, develop and promote University outreach programs to local and regional vendors; and, third, publicly market the University’s mission and vision and how they support the city and the tri-state region.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree required; Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in purchasing, sales, marketing, or promotions required.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and extremely strong verbal skills are required. 
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office to develop correspondence and monitor both budgets and fundraising activities; ability to master Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe InDesign, AdobePhotoshop, and Adobe Illustrator is required.
  • Must be self-motivated and disciplined, capable of both developing and following-through on strategies to achieve objectives.  
  • The ability to create supporting documentation is imperative as is the flexibility to travel regionally during the day, evening, and on weekends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Professionally represent the University in community activities, meetings, organizations, and events, creating a favorable image within the local community, city, and civic organizations.
  • Organize and maintain a current list of vendors to accompany a strategy of vendor outreach designed to forge close ties with the University’s vendors, suppliers, and partners.
  • Understand in-detail the University’s mission and vision and how it supports the community and the tri-state region both culturally and developmentally.
  • Promote the University brand in all areas of the tri-state region to improve name and logo recognition.   
  • Include the various parts of the University in a collective, unified, effort to achieve all three objectives.
  • Professionally develop and distribute literature that supports all three objectives.
