Graduate Assistant, Advancement

POSITION SUMMARY:  Work with all members of the Advancement office in areas including but not limited t  marketing; advancement; public relations; fundraising; and alumni relations.  The Graduate Assistant will be responsible for understanding the function and interrelationships of the various elements of a typical business organization, from product or service development to marketing and finance, from human resources and strategic planning to customer service, from accounting to quality assurance, in an effort to assist the Advancement office in effectively representing the University’s mission and services to the public and prospects.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor's degree with a 3.0 cumulative grade point average from a four-year college or university. 
  • Must be fully accepted into a Master's Degree program at Wheeling Jesuit University.  The position is contingent upon the candidate's actual enrollment in a Master's Program. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint; internet applications and email.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist the Advancement office with communications media and advertising materials to effectively represent the University’s mission.
  • Attend meetings with administration to discuss communication, marketing, or advancement needs and participate as a member of the marketing team.
  • Review literature for assigned projects, previous materials used in the assignment area, and gather and compare materials of competitor colleges and universities.
  • Research, write, and consult with members of the advancement team on the needs of any particular project.  Present recommendations to marketing, advancement, and the Vice President of Advancement.
  • Develop draft documents to present as part of campaign materials.
  • Develop business plans for assigned projects.
  • May attend alumni or fundraising events sponsored by the University to further the purpose of the Advancement office
  • Perform other relevant duties assigned by the Vice President of Advancement.
