1.0 PURPOSE

To offer WJU students with documented disabilities accommodations on a case-by-case basis in a timely manner with confidentiality in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and its Amendments of 2008 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

2.0 POLICY

2.1 Policy Statement

Disability accommodations will be provided to students with documented disabilities upon their individual requests or upon referral from the campus counselor, faculty, staff, or administration.

2.2 Definitions

Disability: Any disabling condition as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and its Amendments of 2008 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
2.3 Procedure
2.3.1 Students who request disability accommodations are responsible for providing the Disability Services Director with appropriate and current documentation - Documentation of a Disability - prior to receiving accommodations.

2.3.2 The Disability Services Director is responsible for determining the type of accommodations and delivery system based on the individual disability documentation.

2.3.3 Disability accommodations will be provided in a confidential and timely manner in a physically accessible and appropriate location.

2.3.4 Disability diagnoses and accommodations and their impact on academic performance is confidential and federal law requires that students must give signed written approval - Authorization to Release Confidential Information Form - for this information to be released to any specified party.

3.0 AUTHORIZATION  

The Director of Disability Services has the authority to change, modify, or approve exceptions to this policy at any time, with or without notice, in accordance with federal disability regulations or modifications and amendments to those regulations, with the approval of the Chief Academic Officer and the President of the University or his designee (Compliance Coordinator).
