The relationship between Wheeling Jesuit University and its employees, including all policies contained herein, are defined by this policy.

2.1 Definition

  1. "At will" - employment is for an unspecified period of time and either the employee or the University may end the relationship at any time for any reason, with or without notice or cause.
  2. "Contract"- employment for a specified period of time or through the completions of a specified scope of work with deliverables stated. All contracts must be approved by the President of the University or his designee.

2.2 Employment with the University is considered to be "at will" for employees absent a contract specifying a duration(length of time) or scope of work.

2.3 Nothing contained in the University's Policies or Procedures or in any oral or written statement, including offer letters and benefits enrollment forms, shall change an employee's at-will status or otherwise limit the University's right to terminate employment at will.

2.4 University policies and procedures are established to provide guidance and function as guidelines for administration of the University; in addition to offer letters and benefits enrollment forms, they are not intended to create a contract, nor are they to be constructed to constitute contractual obligations of any kind or a contract of employment between Wheeling Jesuit University and any of its employees.

2.5 No manager or employee of Wheeling Jesuit University shall have the authority to enter into an employment agreement - express or implied - with any employee providing for employment other than at-will absent the approval of the University President.

The Director of Human Resources has the authority to change, modify or approve exceptions to this policy at any time with or without notice and with the approval of the University President.
