1.0 PURPOSE
Wheeling Jesuit University does not provide special consideration in employment to relatives of current employees.
2.0 POLICY STATEMENT
2.1 Qualified Candidates
- The University strives to employ the most qualified individuals available for all positions.
- The University does not consider family relationship as a disqualifying factor for any type of position since employment depends exclusively on the comparative qualifications of the applicant.
2.2 Reporting Relationships
- The University may offer employment to the spouse, child, parent or parent in law of a current employee; however, the employees may not work in the same department or report directly to family members.
- The University realizes that situations may arise where consensual relationships develop between consenting employees. When such a relationship develops between a supervisor and a subordinate, the University reserves the right to take appropriate action, in its discretion, to protect the interest of the University, which may include transfer, alternative supervisory or evaluative arrangements or dismissal of both parties.
3.0 AUTHORIZATION
The Director of Human Resources, in conjunction with the CFO and the President of the University, has the authority to approve exceptions to this policy at any time with or without notice, and in compliance with other policy guidelines. All changes or revisions to this policy must be pre-approved by the Board of Trustees in advance.
