1.0 PURPOSE
Wheeling Jesuit University provides for its professional employees to join professional organizations associated with their area of expertise. This allows the employees to remain current in their area of expertise and to utilize such knowledge for the betterment of the University.
2.0 POLICY STATEMENT
2.1 Policy Statement
The University will reimburse the cost for all administrative, professional, employees within the University to join on (1) professional organization of their choice associated with their profession annually. Employees are encouraged to discuss the most appropriate professional membership for their role with their supervisor.
2.2 Definitions
"Professional Organization" - An organization of professionals who share similar backgrounds in a particular discipline or area of expertise. The criteria to be deemed a professional organization includes: a pre-defined body of knowledge, certification for practitioners, continuing education requirements for practitioners to remain current and access limited to practitioners either certified in or working within the boundaries defined by the organization as part of its area of expertise.
2.3 Authorized Amounts
- Employees may authorize the University to pay on their behalf the cost of one (1) membership in a professional organization annually.
- All requests for such payment must be through in the University's purchasing system and accompanied by an invoice from the professional organization.
- The amount of the dues associated with the professional organization must be budgeted within the department's authorized budget.
- There is no guarantee that the University will fund dues to any professional associations; the determining factor whether the University funds such dues or not will be predicated upon the finances of the University and the University reserves the right to add, increase, decrease or eliminate professional memberships from its budget.
2.4 Authorization
The Director of Human Resources, in conjunction with the Controller, has the authority to change or modify this policy at any time with or without notice, and with the approval of the Executive Administration Team through the University President.
