1.0 PURPOSE
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities which receive federal financial assistance. This policy has been developed as part of Wheeling Jesuit University's commitment to remain in full compliance with all federal TItle IX directives and against prohibited sexual discrimination in educational programs.
2.0 POLICY STATEMENT
2.1 Policy Statement
Pursuant to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and 34 C.F.R. Part 106, Wheeling Jesuit University's Title IX Committee is the designated agent of the University with primary responsibility for coordinating University Title IX efforts. The Title IX Committee's responsibilities are critical to the development, implementation and monitoring of meaningful efforts to comply with Title IX legislation, regulation, and case law.
2.2 Title IX Committee
- The University has established a Title IX Committee with individuals who have decision-making authority representing each of the following areas covered by the implementing regulations:
- Student Development
- Business Office
- Admissions and Financial Aid
- Athletics
- Academic Affairs
- Human Resources
- The University Vice President/Chief of Staff, who currently chairs this committee, functions as the acting Title IX Coordinator.
- The charter for the University-Wide Title IX Committee is attached as a link to this policy and delineates the responsibilities for the Committee, which is charged with implementation of Title IX for the University and coordinating compliance with Title IX in all areas covered by the implementing regulations.
- Individual departments will develop specific policies and guidelines for implementing Title IX within their specific areas. The Human Resources Department policies and procedures may be found on the HR Website with specific reference to the Equal Employment Opportunity and Harassment Policies.
- The Human Resource Department is tasked with coordinating University-Wide awareness and training.
3.0 AUTHORIZATION
The Director of Human Resources, in conjunction with the Title IX Committee, has the authority to change, modify or approve changes to this policy at any time with or without notice, and in compliance with the Title IX Charter, with the approval of the Title IX Committee and the University President.
