Facilities and Instrumentation

The Chemistry Department is located in the new Acker Science Center and in the adjoining Donahue Hall. The general, organic, analytical and physical chemistry laboratory courses are held in separate labs on the 3rd floor of Donahue Hall. Down the hall, on the same floor in the adjoining Acker Science Center, is the new 1700 ft undergraduate research laboratory. Each faculty member has research space to accommodate from 2 to 4 students.

The department is well equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation. Since 1999, faculty members have received over $300,000 in grants to purchase an AAS, GC/MS, FTIR, and an upgrade for the NMR. Students will obtain hands-on-experience using the various instruments in the laboratory courses and in undergraduate research projects.
