Undergraduate Research

Since 1997, the Chemistry Department faculty has been awarded $405,576 in 23 grants to purchase instruments and to perform undergraduate research.

Undergraduate research enables students to encounter chemistry related to what is found in industry and in graduate school. Students involved in undergraduate research during the past three years have enjoyed enhanced experiences and have emerged with enthusiasm and interest in science and a deeper understanding for technology. Students have presented their research results in poster sessions and presentations at technical meetings and in a publication. Last year, eight students presented their research results at the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in New Orleans.  These experiences have been beneficial to students toward receiving full scholarships to graduate schools. The students are currently enrolled in graduate school at Northwestern, University of Kentucky, University of Pittsburgh, Indiana University and Duquesne University.
