This award is named in honor of Professor Emeritus Paul A. Orr, a long-standing, devoted member of the Department of English, Communications, and Fine Arts. The award is given for excellence in the study and practice of English language and literatures.

This award is named in honor of the journalist, writer, and social activist Dorothy Day who helped found the Catholic Worker Movement. The award recipient is chosen from among those Professional Communications majors who demonstrate outstanding scholarship and service to the department and University.

The Outstanding Fine Arts Student
This award is presented to the student who has most distinguished himself or herself in one of the fine and performing arts - visual art, creative writing, film, music, or theater - during the course of his or her career at Wheeling Jesuit University. The award is determined by vote of the Fine Arts faculty.
