Dr. Paula Makris was born in Los Angeles, Calif., and grew up in South Bend, Ind. She received her BA from Indiana University, with a double-major in English and French literature and a minor in Art History. She received both an MA and a Ph.D. in English from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She joined the WJU faculty in the fall of 2005. Her teaching and research interests include postcolonial literature and theory, Caribbean literature, children’s literature, folklore, and mythology. She recently returned from a scholarly trip to Greece where she gathered material to develop a new course in mythology. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, gardening, and playing with her young son.
