Originally from a small Greek village, Georgia Tambasis comes from a long line of good peasant stock (sheepherders and farmers). After earning a degree in nursing and working in the field for over a decade she pursued her interest in art. She has received numerous awards and honorable mentions in national and regional exhibitions; most recently she received the 1st place award in the 2010 West Virginia Women in the Arts Exhibition at the Randolph County Community Arts Center, Elkins, WV. Recent solo exhibitions include Mutations, Texas A&M International University Gallery, Laredo, TX, and Trans-Mutations, McDonough Museum of Art, Youngstown, OH.

Georgia teaches visual arts studio classes in drawing, painting, object making, and mixed media as well as art history courses. In 2008 she led a Laut Honors seminar on the topic of death, which included explorations of cemeteries, funeral homes, and Day of the Dead celebrations in Texas. In addition to teaching at WJU she offers courses at the Carnegie Museum of Art. When Georgia is not teaching she is involved in her own art making processes of collecting, thinking, and making. Her studio practice combines art and science and includes drawing, painting, sculpture, and installation—one form changes into another, one medium changes into another, and nothing stays the same. Other interests include exploring new places (near and far), being involved with social service trips at WJU, hiking and running, collecting dead things, playing with her cats, and fighting zombies.
