Engineering is about developing new solutions to existing or future problems, which improve the quality of life.
You’ll employ science, math, analysis, and synthesis to design unique and practical solutions to everyday problems. You must accomplish this under the constraints of time, budgets, and safety and health issues.
All the while, you must be concerned about the environmental, political, and social impact your answers will create.
Hands On Learning
Our program emphasizes engineering theory with practice, team work and effective communication skills. Laboratory and design experiences are integrated throughout the curriculum, culminating in a capstone project. Beginning with their first engineering course students will learn to work in teams to solve problems. Through the engineering curriculum and the liberal arts core students will become articulate and persuasive in spoken and written communication. A Wheeling Jesuit engineering science graduate will have the skills necessary to improve the quality of life for all humanity and to consider the ethical dimensions of their work.
Graduates of the engineering science program will be prepared to attend graduate school in many engineering disciplines or seek employment as an apprentice engineer immediately upon graduation.
The program is designed specifically to increase the number of students who remain in engineering and to provide students with a better opportunity to determine which field of engineering interests them most. Our students need not start in calculus, but rather can have time to develop their mathematical skills, if needed, over their first two years at WJU. In this way students will not be placed into a cut-throat environment and will reap the full benefits of the individual attention that is the hallmark of a WJU education.
Our class sizes are small and promote interaction among students and faculty, who bring diverse professional and academic backgrounds to Wheeling Jesuit. Working side-by-side with faculty, you'll obtain an excellent and broad foundation in the engineering sciences. The program will prepare you to become a professional engineer or to attend graduate school in the engineering field of your choice. A special math sequence is available for those not Calculus ready. There are scholarship oppurtunities availble, up to $9,000.
