Spanish Club

The Spanish Club takes pride in bringing cultural awareness to the Wheeling Jesuit Community.  Every year, the club officers plan a calendar filled with a wide variety of activities ranging from movie nights to salsa tasting to chat hours with international students.  Look for flyers on campus advertising our events!

Club members also take part in a service project. Several years ago, the club sponsored a “corn toss” tournament to raise money for the organization, “Not For Sale”. This organization works diligently to end human slavery. Several days prior to the event, the movie, “Trade”, starring Kevin Kline was shown and a discussion of ways to raise awareness and funds to support organizations that help end such human trafficking followed.

Currently the club is planning to organize a fundraiser event for the organization, Soles4Souls. This Nashville-based organization collects gently worn shoes or new shoes donated and distribute them to places of need. Recently they worked in areas affected by Hurricane Katrina. Presently they are working with the Haitian earthquake victims. They continue to send shoes regularly to other areas of the world, “Changing the world, one pair at a time.”

Lastly, the Spanish Club participates every year in the Culture Fest, sponsored by the English Language Institute and International Students. Club members cook a variety of items from Spanish-speaking countries and serve the dishes at the Culture Fest. It is a fun-filled festival of music and dancing and cuisine from around the world. Take a look at their blog.

We look forward to you joining us at events this year. Please join our Face book group, WJU Spanish Club, to stay up-to-date with activities! ¡Hasta entonces!
