Concentration in Medical Physics

In association with the Urologic Research Institute located in Wheeling Hospital, the WJU physics department has developed a medical dosimetry concentration, one of only 10 such undergraduate programs in the country. This program gives students a strong background in medical dosimetry, enabling them to pursue careers as medical dosimetrists or attend graduate school in medical physics.

Also, WJU physics majors are encouraged to work on independent research projects at the Schiffler Cancer Center under the guidance of Gregory S. Merrick, M.D., Wayne M. Butler, Ph.D., and Zachariah Allen, M.S. These projects usually result in publication of the student’s research in a peer-reviewed medical journal.
