Co-Curricular Involvement

Why are extracurricular and co-curricular activities integral to the minor?

The Peace and Justice Studies Program is committed to the insight inherent in Jesuit education that learning is not limited to the four walls of a classroom. Actual hands-on experience and reflection upon it is an essential ingredient in the formation of "persons for others."

West Virginia is a magnificent resource for coming to appreciate the beauty of God's creation.  It also offers a clarion call to help heal a world broken by human greed and the destruction of natural resources.  Such a realization cries out for justice, the development of right relationships with God, with other human beings and with all aspects of nature.

Our hope is that students in this minor will find through their service experience a growing solidarity with others and a strong sense of advocacy for those most at risk.
