Department of Political Science Pre-Law Study

The Program

Pre-law at Wheeling Jesuit University is a recipe for success for acceptance into law school, for excelling in law school and for becoming an accomplished attorney. Many of the majors offered at Wheeling Jesuit - political and economic philosophy, political science, history - can prepare students for law school. The majority of American Bar Association approved law schools grant or deny admission based on the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) and undergraduate GPA, with the LSAT score as the most important criterion. Wheeling Jesuit has a very successful program for pre-law students, including pre-law internships, a well-defined course curriculum, LSAT preparation and special seminars in legal research.

Wheeling Jesuit enjoys a stellar law school admissions record-about a 95% acceptance rate to the law schools of the students' first and second choices. The law schools include: Washington and Lee University, Boston College, Ohio State University, Duquesne University, University of Dayton, West Virginia University, Syracuse University, University of Pittsburgh, University of Akron, Loyola University-Chicago, Santa Clara University, Stetson University and University of Akron. In addition, nearly 40 percent of the students accepted received full, or partial, law school tuition scholarships. Many of the students graduate in the top 10 percent of their law school classes.
