Department of Theology FAQ's

  1. What can I do with a Theology major?
You can do most anything you can do with a humanities degree. A student of theology will learn to read critically, write persuasively, and think creatively about fundamental questions of meaning and value. Recent graduates of WJU Theology have gone on to graduate school, law school, and careers in business, coaching, teaching, and social services.

  2. Do I have to be Catholic? Or Christian? Or even a believer in a religion?
Not at all. We ask students to think deeply and critically about fundamental questions of human experience and to consider the intelligibility of faith claims. At no point is a student’s personal faith (or absence thereof) an issue in the classroom.

  3. Will majoring in Theology impact my faith?
This is a difficult question to answer. Students often find their presumptions challenged as we invite them to grow into a more critical and nuanced understanding of faith claims. Yet we believe that such challenge ultimately deepens and strengthens a student’s faith.
