Applying for Financial Aid Financial aid is awarded on the basis of scholastic achievement, financial need or a combination of both. Offers of assistance are designed to supplement the resources of the family and may vary per academic year. For Federal, University, state and most private aid, family resources are measured by the needs analysis formula of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A family's Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is based upon the information submitted on the FAFSA, which includes income, assets, number of people in the family and other family factors. All students are required to file the FAFSA if they wish to apply for federal, state and WJU grants and scholarships. The FAFSA is filled electronically at www.fafsa.ed.gov, an official U.S. Department of Education site. You will need to apply for a PIN to "sign" your online FAFSA, make corrections to your Student Aid Report (SAR). If you are a dependent student, your parent will need to apply for one too. You can get your PIN before you begin at www.pin.ed.gov or as you complete the FAFSA. Remember this process is free - you never pay to apply for federal financial aid.
