Students leaving Wheeling Jesuit University after the semester begins, for whatever reason, are recognized as having withdrawn on the date notice is given to the Registrar's Office. Students who withdraw or take a leave of absence (LOA) from the University for any reason after the start of an academic semester, or who are dismissed in mid-semester, are entitled to a refund of charges. The University follows the Title IV federal aid refund policy. A student's tuition account refunds will be based on a weekly percentage using the following table below:

Financial aid awards to students who withdraw or take a leave of absence after the semester begins are recalculated on a basis consistent with the University and federal/state refunds policies governing financial aid. If any portion of a students charges i to be refunded due to withdrawal, an adjustment must be made to the student's financial aid. In cases where financial aid awards must be adjusted, the proper amount of the student's aid will be returned to the appropriate fund, or in the case of a Stafford Loan, to the lender. The Federal Title IV Refund Calculation is based on a percent of earned aid for the student s who withdraw or take a leave of absence prior to completing 60% of a semester. The percent of earned aid is equal to the number of days completed up to the withdraw date divided by total number of days in the semester. The federal aid to be returned or the unearned portion, is equal to (100% - percent earned) times the total amount of federal aid disbursed toward institutional charges.

If the return of Title IV funds is required, Wheeling Jesuit University will refund the appropriate program(s) in the following order:

1. Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan
2. Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan
3. Perkins Loan
4. Federal Stafford PLUS
5. Federal Pell Grant
6. Federal SEOG
7. State money in accordance with the guidelines of the state agency

Institutional aid is adjusted at the same rate as the percentage of tuition refund. In some cases, institutional aid may be reduced more depending on charges. If the calculation results in a refund due to the student, the refund will be paid by check within 30 days. If calculations result in a balance due to the University, payment is expected within 30 days.
