Fall 2010

Various Freshman Year Seminar Experiential Learning Trips to regional sites looking at regional environmental issues, film, literature, history, politics, and health care.  Sponsored in part through a grant from the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Wednesday, October 27th at 7:30pm in the NTTC Auditorium
Karen will be performing Coal Camp Memories, a music/storytelling presentation about life in WV coal communities in the early 1900s.  Open to the campus community and public.

Karen is a master storyteller in the Appalachian tradition with some special stories for the Halloween season!  Also open to the campus community and public.

The Costs and Benefits of Coal Forum
Wednesday, November 3rd at 7:30pm in the NTTC Auditorium
moderated by WJU faculty member John Poffenbarger
Forum featuring CHRIS HAMILTON, VP OF THE WEST VIRGINIA COAL ASSOCIATION,  BEN STOUT, WJU FACULTY MEMBER AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST, and DENNIS SPARKS, DIRECTOR OF THE WEST VIRGINIA COUNCIL OF CHURCHES (which has just endorsed an anti-mountain top removal resolution).  Open to the campus community and public.

Appalachian Trip Leaders’ Orientation
November 5-7, 2010
Leaders from institutions participating in various Appalachian immersion experiences are invited to attend this orientation to prepare for upcoming trips.
