Monongah Mine Disaster of 1907 Book Released by WJU VP Davitt McAteer '66
To commemorate the hundreds of victims and their families on the centennial anniversary of the nation's worst mining disaster, West Virginia University Press is honored to release “Monongah: The Tragic Story of the 1907 Monongah Mine Disaster, the Worst Industrial Accident in U.S. History,” a book by renowned mining and safety expert, Davitt McAteer, who is Wheeling Jesuit University's Vice President of Sponsored Programs.

Service is Everywhere at Wheeling Jesuit University
Every student that enters the university enters a community where service is a part of daily life. Beginning with the Freshman Year Seminar, new undergrads quickly discover the value of service to others as they begin their college career.
Serving others with compassion has always been a part of the Jesuit mission. Many of our campus service projects have been ongoing for years. Others, like the health service immersion program performed by respiratory therapy students and staff this fall and the service projects taken on by students living on the Academic Controlled Environment (ACE) floor of Ignatius Hall, are new.

University Psychology Students are Among the Best in the Nation
Ten senior psychology students at Wheeling Jesuit University are among the best in the nation based upon recent testing administered by Educational Testing Services, a non-profit organization whose mission is to advance quality and equity in education for people worldwide.
"Ten students in our psychology department scored in the 85th percentile of students nationwide, and our department's cumulative performance placed us in the top percentile of colleges in the nation," said Dr. Debra Hull, Chair of the Department of Psychology at Wheeling Jesuit University. "This is a wonderful accomplishment for our students, and this recognition further affirms the quality of education available at Wheeling Jesuit Univesity."

University Brings Family Together for Ceremony Honoring Promotion of Thomas Welsh '90, Commander, U.S. Navy
Former Glen Dale resident and 1990 Wheeling Jesuit University graduate, Thomas J. Welsh LCDR, Judge Advocate General's Corps, U.S. Navy, will be promoted to the rank of Commander on Friday, Nov.
Because the official ceremony will be held at Naval Surface Forces headquarters in San Diego, Calif., Welsh's parents, James and Rosemary, and mother-in-law, Nila Braden, are unable to attend. However, his alma mater is honored to solve the distance problem and bring the family together via videoconference on this important occasion.

National Jesuit Honor Society Alpha Sigma Nu Inducts 16 Students
Also being honored are Physical Therapy Professor Mark Drnach and University Vice President of Sponsored Programs Davitt McAteer, J.D.
Wheeling Jesuit University welcomes new members of Alpha Sigma Nu during a 7 p.m. induction ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Chapel of Mary and Joseph. Honoring both students and employees who are joining the national Jesuit honor society, the ceremony will be followed by a social at Greco's Italian Restaurant.
Guest speaker at the ceremony is President Julio Giulietti, S.J. He will speak on the three aspects of Alpha Sigma Nu membership: scholarship, service and fidelity to Jesuit education values.
