Wheeling Jesuit Stuns No. 1 Wesy Liberty

Image of Steve Catich going to the hoop.Just three days after being elevated to No. 1 in the NCAA Division II men's basketball rankings, West Liberty University went down to a stunning defeat at the hands of backyard neighbor Wheeling Jesuit University on Wednesday night at the jam-packed Alma Grace McDonough Center.

Steve Catich capped off a brilliant 33-point, 10-rebound performance by swishing six straight free throws in the final minute to put the finishing touches on a 109-99 victory by the Cardinals that snapped the Toppers' 60-game conference winning streak and triggered a wild celebration by the home fans after the final second had ticked off the clock.

Jesuit Men 3-Peat, Women's Swimming Crowned ASC Champions

The Wheeling Jesuit men's and women's swim teams won the 2012 Appalachian Swimming and Diving Conference Championships on Saturday evening at the Stivers Aquatic Center in Barbourville, Ky.

The Jesuit men flew to five first place finishes and captured their third-straight ASC title by a 237-point margin of victory over Asbury University (645-408). The Cardinal women soared above the back-to-back runner-up finishes (2010, 2011) to claim the 2012 Women's ASC Championship, while claiming six races en route to a 556.5-510 victory.


WJU Volleyball - NCAA Atlantic Regional Champions

For the first time in school history, the Wheeling Jesuit University Volleyball team won the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championship and will advance to the NCAA's Elite Eight after defeating their arch-nemesis, California University of Pennsylvania.

In the past four years the Wheeling Jesuit has made four trips to the NCAA tournament, but came up short. In 2008, the second seeded Cardinals were defeated in the regional final by No. 1 California (Pa.), and in 2009, the Vulcans ended their season in the semifinal round while Clarion University upset the Cardinals in last year's semifinal.


Wheeling Jesuit Claims WVIAC Women's Golf Championship

The Wheeling Jesuit Women's golf team added to their first round lead to claimed the 2011-2012 WVIAC Women's Golf Championship by twenty-two strokes over Seton Hill University.

The Cardinals were led by Julie Hirauk's two round total of 152. The Cardinals shot a two round total 659, followed by Seton Hill (681), West Virginia Wesleyan (683), and Concord (687) in a group second through fourth. Rounding out the top five teams was Ohio Valley (694).
