Richard A. (Dick) Riley, Jr.
Class of 1984
Professor of Public Accounting
West Virginia University

Richard A. (Dick) Riley, Jr., '84 is a Louis F. Tanner Distinguished Professor of Public Accounting at West Virginia University. The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners named him the 2008 Educator of the Year and in 2009, the American Accounting Association recognized his groundbreaking work in fraud and forensic accounting education with the Innovation in Accounting Education Award.

At West Virginia University, he not only teaches traditional accounting classes but also works with forensic accounting/fraud investigation (FAFI) and executive MBA students regarding anti-fraud, forensic accounting, performance measurement and entrepreneurship.

Dr. Riley is a CPA, CFE, CFF, forensic accountant and fraud examiner who has developed and implemented fraud and forensic accounting education programs for the United States National Institute of Justice and the Internal Revenue Service. Since 2002, Dr. Riley has performed expert financial analysis and litigation support services, offering deposition and trial testimony.

He has published two books: Financial Statement Fraud: Prevention and Detection with Zabi Rezaee (John Wiley & Sons, 2010) and a Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination with Joseph Wells and Mary-Jo Kranacher (John Wiley & Sons, 2011). He serves his profession as chairperson of the ACFE Higher Education Committee and as vice president of research and operations for the Institute for Fraud Prevention.

In addition to his undergraduate degree in accounting, Dr. Riley possesses a master's of professional accountancy from West Virginia University and doctor of philosophy degree from the University of Tennessee.

He currently serves as the president of Wheeling Jesuit's Alumni Council and previously served at the Council's vice president.
