Writing Tutoring for Distance Learners

The ARC provides distance writing tutoring to Wheeling Jesuit students enrolled in classes through the Center for Professional and Graduate Studies and to students who take classes at any one of WJU’s satellite campuses.

Methods for Submission
Send your paper via fax or e-mail to the ARC.  Include the following contact and assignment information with your submission:
  • Your name and Cardinal Card number

  • Daytime phone number(s) where you can usually be reached (this will be our method of sustained contact about your work)

  • Email address (this is our preferred method of initial contact)

  • Campus location (or indicate if this is an on-line course)

  • Course name (or module)

  • Name of instructor (or director)

  • Assignment--please be as detailed as possible (include the due date)

  • Area of concern in your paper (e.g. grammar, organization, sentence structure...)

Please complete all the above information, so an ARC writing tutor can check your paper.  The more information we have about any assignment helps us meet your individual needs and ask appropriate questions about the content of your paper.

Most papers (five pages or less) will be returned within 48 hours (not including weekends or holidays) after we acknowledge receipt of your paper.  Long papers will require more time.  Please be aware that during especially busy times, an ARC writing tutor may not be available.

In addition, we especially need a daytime telephone number and a convenient time to call since a telephone conversation is the most expedient way to discuss your paper.  Please have a copy of your paper handy, so you can refer to it during our conversation.

Please read the ARC policy about proofreading and documenting sources.

FAX Directions
Send your paper along with your contact and assignment information to 304-243-4457.

Email Directions
Send your paper as an attachment to arc@wju.edu.  In the subject line, type the phrase
"DW Submission."  Include your contact and assignment information in the body of your email.  Your paper should be saved using one of the following formats:
Word Document (.doc or .docx)

Works 6.0 or 7.0 (.wps)

WordPerfect 5.x or 6.x (.doc or .wpd)

Rich Text Format (.rtf)

The ARC will contact you by email and/or phone to acknowledge the receipt of your paper.  Please keep in mind that depending on prior committments, it may take several days before the ARC will be able to discuss your paper with you.  An online writing tutor is not available on weekends or holidays.  If you have any questions about this procedure, you may contact us toll-free by calling the Center for Professional and Graduate Studies Office at 1-800-873-7665, then ask to be transferred to extension 4473.  Or you may call the Academic Resource Center directly at 304-243-4473.  Please ask to speak to one of the full-time ARC staff members.
