All-WVIAC Team Announced

(JOHNSTOWN, PA)---Shepherd senior Dirk Webb has been named the WVIAC Player and Hitter of the Year by a vote of league coaches.  The senior first baseman ranks among the league leaders with a .430 batting average, 14 home runs, and 51 runs batted in. 

Fairmont State's Zach Campbell was recognized as the league's Pitcher of the Year.  Campbell enjoyed a sterling senior season with an 8-3 record and 1.84 earned run average.  The Moundsville, WV native also leads the WVIAC with 68 strikeouts.

Concord skipper Kevin Garrett is the conference's Coach of the Year.  The Mountain Lion skipper wins his third conference coaching honor ('00, '03) after leading CU to a 35-11 regular season mark.  CU has established a school record for single-season victories and is the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division II North Atlantic Region rankings.  He owns a 299-237-3 record in his 13 seasons in Athens.

WV State Takes Two from Wheeling Jesuit

Institute, WV - The Yellow Jackets swept a double header from the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals today at Calvin L. Bailey field to improve their record to 5-5 on the season.

The Yellow Jackets pounded out the hits in game one with a final score of 22-3. Todd McQuistion pitched four shutout innings to pick up the win and C.J. Meadows closed the game out with three strong innings to pick up the save. Offensively, thirteen Yellow Jackets had at least one hit. Josh Bower was 4-4 with 4 RBI, Eric Workman was 3-4 with a home run and 4 RBI, Bo Darby was 3-3 with a home run and 2 RBI, and Josh Koepsel had a grand slam and an RBI walk.

The Yellow Jackets took care of business in game two with pitching and defense. Travis McGrath led the way with five shutout innings to earn his first win of the season. Jake Kight came in and slammed the door with two shutout innings of his own to pick up the save. Offensively, the team was led by Nathan Koepsel, who drove in Tyler Nunn for the Yellow Jackets run.

The two teams face off again tomorrow at 1:00 for another doubleheader at Calvin L. Bailey Field.

Cardinals Open Season With Win
February 24, 2008

Wheeling Jesuit opened it's 2008 Baseball season with a 3-1 win over St. Leo University in the opening day of the Gene Cusic Classic in Ft. Myers, FL.

Cardinal centerfielder Noah Mull went 4-for-4 on the day, while Daniel Peterson went 3-for-4. Brett Dutton, Matthew Popiolkowski, and James Savel each found home plate to score the Cardinals 3 runs. Ricky Szeligo recorded 3 RBI's, a double, and one stolen base towards the win.

Cody Stickdorn went the distance for Wheeling allowing 8 hits and just one run. Stickdorn recorded 8 strikeouts en route to the win.

Wheeling Jesuit recorded 2 runs in the fifth innings off a two-run single for 2B Ricky Szeligo. St. Leo cut the lead in half in the sixth inning with a solo shot from T.J. Alonzo. The Cardinals added the final blow with a run in the top of ninth and Stickdorn fanned out the side in the bottom of the inning recording Wheeling's first win of the season.

Wheeling Jesuit's next contest will be against Mercyhurst (PA) expected start time is 1pm.

WV State Places Five on First Team All-WVIAC Baseball Squad
May 3, 2007

(PRINCETON, W.VA.)---Divisional champions accounted for the top honors in 2007 West Virginia Conference as voted upon by the league's head coaches. Southern Division title holder West Virginia State accounted for the WVIAC's Player and Hitter of the Year in Josh Miller, while the Jackets also produced Michael Barron, the WVIAC Pitcher of the Year. Veteran West Liberty State head coach Bo McConnaugh was honored by his peers as the league's Coach of the Year.
