Game 26 WVIAC Championship Game
Shepherd won the 2007 WVIAC Softball Championship
in a dramatic seven inning game that came down to the third out of
the seventh inning. Andrea Lewis pitched her third game of the day
for Charleston, recording 12 strike outs and giving up only 5 hits,
but a pair of runs in the fourth doomed the Eagles. Tournament MVP
Mia Zappacosta doubled and scored off an Amy Edmondson single and a
Charleston fielding error to give the Lady Rams the winning run.
Edmondson, who advanced to third on the error, scored on the next
play when Rebekah Walsh singled to center. The Eagles appeared to be
making a miracle comeback loading the bases in the bottom of the
seventh, with only one out. Kathy Jo Getz grounded to Zappacosta who
threw home to Amanda Orkoskey to force out Natalie Murray. Orkoskey
made the throw to Stephanie Sims at first to complete the 123
double-play. Shepherd earns their second WVIAC softball title, the
other coming in 1991.
