Second Half Surge Carries
Wheeling Jesuit Past AU
ASHLAND,
OH September 9, 2007 —
When the
going got tough, Getz got going.
Wheeling
Jesuit senior forward Lindsay Getz had 2 goals and an assist Sunday (Sept.
9) as the Cardinals nipped the Eagles, 3-2 in a non-conference women's
soccer match at the AU Soccer Complex.
Ashland was
in front, 2-1 at halftime. Getz had a goal and an assist in the second half
as the visitors pulled away for the win. The Cardinals are 5-2 while AU
falls to 2-3-1.
The Eagles
got the first score of the match when Kelly Usher scored her fourth goal of
the year at 3:52. The assist went to Kelly Farrell.
Wheeling
tied the match, 1-1 at 29:40 when Getz chipped the ball over the head of
keeper Marie Supanich in the box. Hannah Walker earned the assist.
The Eagles
regained the lead, 2-1 on Casey Snyder's fourth goal of the year. That came
at 43:17 with the assist going to Hannah Brown.
The
Cardinals drew even at 66:56 when Katie Groff took a pass from Getz in the
right corner and deposited the ball in the bottom right corner. The game
winner came at 71:12, Getz going 1-on-1 with Supanich and winning the
battle. Throughout the second half Getz was able to work free and penetrate
deep into the AU side of the field. The senior took three shots and scored
on both of her shots on goal. She has 5 goals this season.
Wheeling
Jesuit led in shots, 13-12 and in corner kicks, 4-3. Cardinals keeper
Lauren Lewicki had 6 saves.
WJU’s next
match will be another non-conference affair. The Cardinals will host
California PA Wednesday (Sept., 12, 6 p.m.).
