Head Coach

Wheeling Jesuit University Director of Athletics Danny Sancomb is pleased to announce James Walker as the Lady Cardinals' new head softball coach.

"After the search committee reviewed several candidates for the position, we felt Jim was the best fit for our university, athletic department, and softball program," Sancomb stated. "His energy and passion along with his extensive knowledge of the game will elevate the program to the next level."

"I am extremely honored to have the opportunity to join the Wheeling Jesuit University family," Walker stated. "I want to thank President Beyer, Athletic Director Dan Sancomb and the search committee for this opportunity.”

Walker comes to Wheeling from Carlow University where he served as associate head coach under Bob Sirko. His primary responsibilities at Carlow included monitoring the student/athletes academic progress, recruiting, fundraising, off-season workouts, pregame preparation and the primary hitting and infield coach.

In addition to his collegiate coaching responsibilities, Walker serves as the president and coach (18 and under and 23 and under) of the Valley Rage Softball Travel Organization in Beaver County, Pa. Last year, the 18 and under team finished in the top four of all tournaments participated and qualified for the American Softball Association’s National Tournament in Sterling, Va.

Walker is the owner of ZoneSports Sports Academy in Aliquippa, Pa. which hosts softball clinics for local youth organizations, pitching instruction and speed and explosion training. In addition, he assists with the University of Pittsburgh’s Elite Invitational Camp as a softball clinic instructor for infield play.

“I believe there is a solid foundation set in the softball program, and together we have the opportunity to do great things and be very successful,” said Walker.

Walker is the father of two daughters, Courtney, 16 and Caitlin, 9.
