Red Takes Series Lead With Opening Game Win -Geibel, San Felippo, and Wickham have strong showing for Red
Wheeling, WV, Oct. 22, 2009--- The red team has taken the first game in the best of three series in Wheeling Jesuit’s 5th annual “Red vs. Black” World Series on Wednesday night at the I-470 Complex,
The red team was led by a solid pitching performance from starter Tim Geibel. Geibel took a 1-hitter into the 4th and finished his outing pitching into the 5th giving up 4 earned runs and striking out 2. Black starter Vince Licursi also had a solid day giving up 2 earned through 5 as well.
The Red team started off the scoring in the 4th with an RBI single from freshman Cory Wickham scoring Andrew Kozusko. Wickham ended the day going 3-4 with an RBI. Dominic San Felippo also had a big day for the Red, going 3-4 with two doubles, a single, and two RBI. Freshman Alex Kozusko came in to close the door hurling the final 2 1/3 innings and earned the save for the Red Team.
Mark Gira led the way for the Black team going 1-2 with a double and 2 RBI’s. Senior Brandon Spack and Sophomore Ryan Venderlic each had a double.
Game 2 will begin tonight at 5:15 at the I-470 complex. Senior Noah Mull will take the mound for the Black squad, opposite Senior Matt Taylor for the Red team.
