Black Team Evens Series Behind Mull Noah Mull dominate against Red hitters
Noah Mull was unhittable in game two of the “Red vs. Black” World Series Thursday night, as the Black team came back to even the three game series with a 5-0 win against the Red team.
The Senior’s quest for a no-hitter was broken up with nobody out in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single by Cory Wickham. Mull finished the night going 5 complete shutout innings, giving up only 1 hit, with 6 strikeouts on 68 pitches. Mull held the Red bats in check with Wickham being the only Red hitter collecting more than one hit, the Freshman finished with two singles.
The Black team jumped ahead early in the 1st when freshman Jordan Kraus singled and then scored on a double by Mull. Mike Ludewig then had a very heads up hustle play on the bases when a wild pitch allowed him to score all the way from second base to extend the first inning lead to 3-0.
Red pitcher Matt Taylor settled down after the first scattering two hits through the next 4 innings. The Black team added two insurance runs in the top of the 7th when red-shirt freshman Malachi Murphy came through with an RBI single against Red freshman reliever Owen Bianco. Jordan Kraus finished the game by throwing the last 2 scoreless innings to earn the save for the Black team.
The third and final game will be held this Sunday at 2pm, with a cookout to follow. Everyone is encouraged to attend and support the Cardinal Baseball Team.
