Cardinals Battle Warrior
Winter Haven, FL, Mar. 10, 2010---After the off day, Wheeling Jesuit baseball (3-2) lined up for a nine inning contest against Winona State University (10-3) on Wednesday.
The Warriors recorded one in the first after a Cardinal error and two base hits. The Cardinals would answer the call, spraying hits around the yard and crossing the plate three times . Mark Linkinoggor led off with a triple while Jordan Kraus and Seth Fluharty followed with singles. Mike Ludewig reached on a fielder’s choice as Andrew Nemecek and Dominic San Felippo singled to end the scoring drive.
Going into the bottom half of the second, the Warriors led 4-3 after surging for three additional runs. The Cardinals once again answered the attack when Tom Charles scored on a base hit by Kraus.
The Warriors would add one in the third, sixth, and seventh while the Cardinals managed to get one in the sixth but failed to drive anymore home.
The Warriors held on for the 7-5 win.
Steven Buffo received the decision for the Cardinals as he went four complete giving up two earned runs and five total. Buffo retired five swinging and allowed three Warrior s to reach on free passes. Shane Sullivan picked up four innings of work as well, giving up two runs on two hits and two strikeouts. Kraus hurled the last inning and didn’t allow a Warrior to cross the plate, allowing two hits.
Wheeling Jesuit tallied 12 hits led by Linkinoggor’s 3-for-5 performance. San Felippo and Krause had two apiece while Fluharty, Nemecek, Ludewig, and Robbie Davia added one each.
Wheeling Jesuit will be back in action on Thursday, Mar. 11th against Hillsdale College at 3:00 p.m.
