University Retires Jackie Ernest Reinbeau's Jersey
at Alumni Basketball Events

WHEELING, WV, February 20, 2009 --- Wheeling Jesuit University is retiring the jersey of former Lady Cardinal hoop star Jackie (Ernest) Reinbeau Saturday, Feb. 21 just before the women's varsity game against Ohio Valley University.

Tip-off is at 6 p.m. for the ladies. The men play earlier at 4 p.m., also against Ohio Valley. Both games are at the McDonough Center.

Reinbeau, a 1989 graduate of Wheeling Jesuit is a resident of Triadelphia, W.Va. She's married to Rick Reinbeau and together they have two children, Ryan, 12 and Kaylee, 7. She is the daughter of Judy and Jerry Ernest of Warwood.

From 1985-1989 she scored 1,681 points and was two-time WVIAC First Team performer, first team Jesuit All-American and team MVP in 1989. When she graduated she held the record for most points in a single game - 39 and still holds team records for most field goals in a game at 15, most points in a season, 589, highest season average, 22.2, most free throw attempts, 278, and most free throws made, 205.

Coached by Joe Key, current Wheeling Jesuit head coach, Reinbeau went on to be inducted into the WJU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995.

She graduated from Wheeling Central Catholic in 1985 where she also recorded a stellar career on the court and was coached by Stan Kaniecki.

Also being honored Saturday prior to the men's varsity game are members of the 74-75 and 75-76 men's basketball teams who were coached by Paul Baker. These teams recorded the University's first back-to-back 20 win seasons.

The men honorees hit the hardwood and posted a 23-11 record in 1974-75. A year later, the 1975-76 squad racked up 24 wins and just eight losses. Members of those two Cardinal teams were invited back to campus for the weekend and include: John Beilein, John Stopper, Michael Barnes, Kevin Huffman, Stephen Hydock, James Kelly, Dennis Schwartz, Craig Swanson, Rod Gaddy, Bob. Narrish, Dan Wilson, Michael Joram, Phillip Thompson, Leroy Wilson and Joseph Harkins. Also a member of the team was Robert Kincaid, now deceased. Baker's assistant coach was Tom Bechtel.

Saturday's alumni activities include an 11 a.m. men's alumni game and a noon women's alumni game, all in the McDonough Center.

Wheeling Jesuit athletics includes 18 men's and women's athletic teams, most of which compete in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) and NCAA Division II. The athletic teams have won more than 55 WVIAC titles, fielding 40 plus Academic All-Americans, and receiving more than 30 WVIAC Coach of the Year awards. For complete information call 800-624-6992.
