Wheeling Jesuit University Adds 1000 Career Point Scorer
Senior Maqsood Harrington became the 37th Cardinal Basketball player to reach the 1000 career point mark during a 76 – 65 win over the Shepherd Rams. He entered the Shepherd game with 997 career points, and Maqsood was held scoreless in the first half. He hit a 3 pointer with 6:59 left in the second half to reach his 1000 career point. He completed the game with seven points including two fouls shots to put the cards up by 14 with 1:08 to play.
On Saturday, the Cardinals traveled to Johnstown, PA to play conference rival University of Pitt-Johnstown. The cardinals struggled in a 69- 91 loss. Maqsood finished the game with 10 pts., but his career total stands at 1014 points with four regular season games and the conference tournament yet to play.
“Maqsood is a 3 year starter and an extremely hard worker,” said Sancomb. “He is the Ultimate team player. He has worked extremely hard to improve his shooting and offensive play. The hard work has paid off; he is averaging 16 points per game this season. Maqsood moved from running the point guard position to shooting guard which has helped with his scoring.”
He has started all 23 games to date and is averaging 31 minutes and 16 points per contest for the season. The senior captain is shooting 42% from the field, 38% from the 3 point stripe, and 82% from the foul line.
Maqsood is a psychology major and will be graduating in May.
