Wheeling Jesuit Falls to No. 5 Ranked Crimson Hawks
Indiana, PA---Wheeling Jesuit men's basketball team traveled to Indiana, PA on Tuesday evening for a non-conference game against the No. 5th Ranked Indiana University of Pennsylvania (5-0). The Cardinals dropped the decision 82-61 to move to 4-2 on the season. Freshman Andre Harris was the lone Cardinal to reach double figures, finishing with 22 points. Harris knocked down five 3-pointers and grabbed four boards while freshman Obi Ukwuoma tallied nine points with eight rebounds. The Crimson Hawks jumped out to an early 14-4 lead in the opening five minutes and never trailed during the game. Wheeling Jesuit pulled within eight at 19-11 by a 3-pointer by freshman Recardo Gaddy, but UPJ went on a 25-12 run to finish the half with a 44-23 lead. After an IUP 13-4 run to open the second half, the Cardinals outscored the Crimson Hawks 20-10 but it wasn't enough to overcome a 30 point deficit. WJU shot 47 percent from the field and 58 percent from 3-point distance in the second half which was an enormous improvement from the 27 percent from the field and 10 percent from downtown in the first half. The Cardinals will return to action at home as they host the annual Main Street Bank Basketball Classic on Tuesday, December 29th. West Liberty and Cal PA will begin the classic at 3:00 p.m. followed by Wheeling Jesuit and Millersville University at 5:00 p.m. |
